Vardenafil

Vardenafil is supposed to be taken when you are going to have sex within the next four hours and is to be taken only once within 24 hours. You must avoid taking vardenafil more than once within 24 hours, and in case you have you can experience overdose effects. The overdose effects include chest pain, nausea, irregular heartbeat, feeling light headed or dizzy. If you experience any of such symptoms while having sex, you must stop and immediately contact your doctor for further medical assistance and advice.

Vardenafil dosage

Levitra comes in the doses of 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg and 20mg. Vardenafil is not a daily medication which you use for treating health conditions such as diabetes or blood pressure. This pill is supposed to be taken as and when needed or rather before you are going to have sexual intercourse. So a question of missing a vardenafil oral dosage will never arise.

Vardenafil precautions

You must inform your doctor if you are allergic to vardenafil. You must also inform your doctor about any other medical conditions that you are suffering from, such as heart disease, recent history of heart attack or stroke, kidney disease, liver disease or bleeding disorders. Vardenafil can make you feel dizzy or cause vision changes, which can be temporary, and so you must avoid driving, using machinery or do any activity that require clear vision till you are sure you can do them safely. In order to minimize such dizziness effects, you should try to get up slowly when rising from your seat or a lying position. You should also reduce on your intake of alcoholic beverages. Older people using this drug should be very cautious as they can be more sensitive to the side effects of it.

Vardenafil interactions

On consultation, your doctor or pharmacist who is aware of any possible drug interactions, monitor them closely for you. You must avoid starting, stopping or changing the dosage of any other medication you are taking, before checking with your doctor first. Vardenafil should not be used with the following medications because serious or possibly fatal interactions can occur if used together:

  • Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide)
  • Nitroprusside (or any “nitric oxide donor” drugs)
  • Recreational drugs called “poppers” containing amyl or butyl nitrite

You must also inform your doctor or pharmacist of all other prescription and non-prescription / herbal products that you use, especially of:

  • Alpha-blocker medication (e.g., doxazosin, prazosin, terazosin)
  • Other medications for impotence
  • Bosentan
  • High blood pressure medicines
  • Drugs affecting liver enzymes that remove sildenafil from your body (such as azole antifungals including ketoconazole/itraconazole, macrolide antibiotics including erythromycin, cimetidine, delavirdine, rifamycins including rifabutin/rifampin, St. John’s Wort, certain anti-seizure medicines including carbamazepine)

Other medications that you as well as your doctor should be aware of are as follows:

  • If you are taking HIV protease inhibitor (e.g., ritonavir, saquinavir), you should not take more than a 25 milligrams dose of vardenafil within a 48 hour period.
  • If you are taking more than a 25 milligrams dose of vardenafil and are also taking an alpha-blocker medication such as doxazosin, prazosin, terazosin, for conditions such as enlarged prostate, you should separate the time between taking these medications at least by 4 hours.
  • You should avoid taking vardenafil along with other medications such as Cialis and Viagra containing similar ingredients and used to treat erectile dysfunction
