Levogynon (Levonelle) is also known as the morning-after pill and is available under the standard dosage of 1500mcg. It contains levonorgestrel, a synthetic version of the female sex hormone progesterone. Levogynon works by preventing the ovaries from releasing eggs, so as to prevent fertilization. In addition, it also alters the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation of fertilized eggs. The sooner Levogynon is taken after unprotected sex, the lower the failure rate is. It is found to be a highly effective pill that can prevent 7 out of 8 expected pregnancies.
